CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone Duo, marking its debut in foldable smartphones. U.S. prices start at $1,999. The company introduced the device on Sept. 9 at its Cupertino headquarters. Apple CEO John Ternus introduced the new model as part of the latest hardware lineup. Preorders will open on Oct. 16 across more than 70 countries and regions. The first units will arrive at customers and stores on Oct. 23.

The iPhone Duo features a book-like design with two Super Retina XDR displays. When closed, a 5.4-inch screen manages daily phone functions. Opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch inner display ideal for videos, apps, gaming, and multitasking. The enclosure is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, and the hinge contains over 100 components. It also has an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance.
Apple has tailored its mobile OS for the larger foldable screen. The iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1, which offers features optimized for the new display format. Users can run two apps side by side and save preferred app pairings. When open, the phone can display two Home Screen pages simultaneously. Touch ID is located on the side button, providing biometric security in both modes.
Foldable Screen Boosts Multitasking and Camera Capabilities
The rear camera system includes a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera offers an optical-quality 2x telephoto zoom and zero shutter lag support. Users can preview their rear-camera selfies on the outside display before capturing. Duo Preview allows subjects to see the frame while another person controls the camera. The main camera records 4K video at up to 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision.
Powering the foldable iPhone is Apple’s A20 Pro processor with a dual-battery setup. A custom vapor chamber assists in heat regulation during intensive tasks. Apple estimates up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display. When using the outer screen, playback extends to 44 hours. The device supports fast wired and wireless charging, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity.
Pricing and Launch in Over 70 Countries in October
The iPhone Duo will be available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Customers can choose between star white and night sky finishes. In the U.S., the price begins at $1,999, while in the UAE, it starts at AED 8,499. Sales begin on Oct. 23 after preorders open a week earlier. On Oct. 30, Apple will expand availability to an additional 28 countries and regions. The device also features an eSIM-only design worldwide.
With this foldable iPhone, Apple enters an already competitive market with a device that combines its own hardware and software. It features a compact external screen and the largest display ever on an iPhone. The device integrates Apple’s processors, cameras, connectivity, and mobile OS into a foldable format. Customers will receive their first units about six weeks after the September launch. The October release marks the commercial debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
